The question was posed.  A challenge set forth.  I was overwhelmed with the emotions I felt.  With everything I’d been through in my life…the loss of a father, childhood sexual abuse, tumultuous teens, miscarriages, a marriage on the brink…my response to the question was not a simple one.  He has done so much healing work within my heart and there was no possible way I could offer a quick and easy answer.  How did what Christ accomplished on the cross affect my life?  How could anyone answer this question flippantly?  As I reflected on my years of healing, I came up with 7 Ways The cross Has Affected My Life.

The question could have been answered simply and without another thought. But I wanted to spend more time reflecting on my response. What my Saviour had done many years ago was really the only reason I was still alive. The only reason I am living in freedom. This Easter, I want to begin reflecting on the 7 Ways The Cross Has Affected My Life. What Christ did on the Cross has deeply affected my life.  It has changed my life.  From His time in the garden to His resurrection – it all means so much to me.

He Chose The Nails

As I read about Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane, I see His submission to His Father – submission in the face of death.  He was in so much emotional anguish.  He knew what He was about to endure.  In anguish, He asked His Father to spare Him if it was His will if there was any other way.  There was not another way to save the world.  Jesus did not want to go through a horrible crucifixion, but He chose to because of His love for me.

I Can Be Whole

Jesus was scourged and beaten beyond recognition.  He went through this so I don’t have to continue my life as a wounded soul.  He is faithful to bring healing to my scourged and beaten up heart.  I can bring my shattered heart to Him and He will put the pieces back together again.

No More Death

Jesus was nailed to a cross.  Galatian 3 13He became the curse for me.  I no longer live under a curse of death and bondage.  I can leave my chains hanging on the nails that pierced my Saviour’s hands and feet.

He Will Never Turn His Face From Me

The sin of the world was placed upon His shoulders.  There was so much sin that the Father had to turn His face away from His Son.  That thought makes me weep; the idea that His Father couldn’t even look at His Son.  I can’t imagine not being able to look at any of my precious children.  But He was willing to not have His Father look at Him so that My Father would never have to turn His face away from me.

I Don’t Have To Carry My Sin

All of my sin – my past sin, my present sin and my future sin covered my Saviour that awful day.  The entire world’s sin was put upon Him.  Everyone’s sin at that time and all through history to today and into the future was put on Him.  The world’s population is estimated to be 7.153 billion – that is a lot of sin!  It is a lot of sin to forgive – and yet He did.  He has already forgiven me.  I just need to receive it.  He carried my sin so that I don’t have to.

My Heart Is Alive

Jesus died of a broken heart.  Because He did, I don’t have to.  I can have a full, abundant life.  All of my brokenness can be left at the foot of the cross.  He has taken care of all of it.  I can choose to live in complete victory.  That is one of the reasons why He died – for our freedom.  I don’t have to live with a dying heart.

colossians 1 22

I Am Blameless and Spotless

My sweet Jesus rose from the grave.  He is alive again so that I may have life here on earth and eternal life with Him in heaven.  I can now stand before my Father God, blameless and spotless; I wear the righteousness of Christ.

Because He went through all of that, I know He understands everything I go through.  Because of what He did on the cross that fateful day, He has paid a price for me that no one else possibly could have paid.  The work of the cross has made it possible for those of us who love Him to live an abundantly joyful life.  Not a life free of problems, but we can experience life, redemption, and peace through those times.  What are some Ways The cross Has Affected Your Life?  Share in the comments below.  I’d love to hear your responses!
