Emotions…they can sure get the best of, can’t they?  At least mine do sometimes.  In fact, just the other day they did and I had a not-so-kind tone of voice with my kids.  It wasn’t pretty.  The thing with our emotions is that we can quickly and easily make excuses for them instead of taking responsibility for how we are feeling and how we react to our feelings.  For example, we can justify our anger with “If she hadn’t done that, I wouldn’t have gotten so angry.”  Or, “If my child would’ve just done what I told him to do, I wouldn’t be so irritated/annoyed/frustrated”.

Our feelings are fickle and can lead to trouble.  They should not be dictating our behavior.  Our feelings indicate there is something going on, but they do not deserve to be seated in the seat of reason and choices.

I know, you’ve probably messed this up – just like me – and we can be so thankful for His grace and mercy.  That He is always willing to correct us and bring truth into our hearts.  I am thankful He is so patient and that He has given me the Holy Spirit to help me manage my emotions.

Alyssa Avant addressed the issue of our emotions in her post, Are You Ruled by Your Emotions?.  She makes some great points and she reminds us to draw closer to God for help.

Alyssa, please be sure to grab this “I’ve Been Featured” image below and add it, with a link to this page, to your post so that your readers can celebrate with you!
