“I just want to know God’s plan!”
Have you heard that statement before? Or maybe you’ve said it yourself?
I’ve certainly wished for it myself…and said it.
We usually say this kind of thing when we are uncertain of the direction our life is headed or when there is turmoil and disappointment. We rarely utter such a thing when life is going great.
But here’s the thing…if we had the plan, we wouldn’t need God anymore. We need to stop begging Him to give us the blueprint and start trusting Him by building. We need to be Building for Wisdom.
Two years ago, we moved from our house built in 1901 to our new one that was built in the early 1990’s. In the 90 years our old house has lived, it endured many renovations and additions. It wasn’t built or planned for the modern family, that’s for sure. Due to all of the renovations, the kitchen had 5 doorways. Yes, that’s right. 5.
Not exactly functional for a family of 5 that is home all day every day (I homeschool the kids and my hubby and I both work from home). The doorways made it almost impossible to make the kitchen practical and efficient. There was no place to add more counter space. The layout was limited in design options. And then there was the concern of what surprises would be found inside the walls with wiring and plumbing. The big overall picture was not a consideration when this house was built. Of course, I would not expect builders in 1901 to be thinking 100 years in the future;)
However, the point can still be clear. No one can possibly see the big picture – I mean, the REALLY big picture. That is for God alone to see.
He Made A Plan
Could you imagine trying to build a house without a plan? How would you know where to start? What to do first? What materials and equipment to get? There is so much that goes into building a house.
It’s a good thing that our God knows exactly what He is doing. He has already made a plan for our lives. He has the big picture in mind and He knows exactly what we need and when we need it.
He’s Not Finished
What is the most exciting part of building a home? It’s revealing the final product, right? Most of the construction phase is pretty boring. At least to me, it is. Who is really interested in the foundation or the framework? Or the plumbing and electrical?
But the builder has the final product in mind as he plans and builds. He knows the other steps are necessary for strong construction even though they aren’t the best looking at the moment.
We must keep this in mind as we journey through life. God isn’t finished with us yet. However, when He looks at us, He sees the final product. He doesn’t just see where we have been, as awful as our past might be. He doesn’t just see the present phase we are in. And He doesn’t just see the tools lying around. The sawdust everywhere. The windows waiting to be installed. Or the drywall dust covering everything.
He sees the bigger picture, the final product. Who we are meant to be.
Who He created us to be.
Full of His glory.
And that is what He is building towards.
Why We Don’t Have The Plan
Do you know what would happen if we had the plan?
We’d mess it up.
Yes, we would.
Let’s think about this for a minute. The general contractor knows the plan. He is also very experienced. Do you think it would be wise of him to hand over the blueprint to his apprentice? Or to the workers? No! They’d mess it up!
I, for one, would not be comfortable with the laborers having control over the construction of my h house! Not only would they not have the experience, but they wouldn’t care nearly as much as the contractor since it is the contractor’s name going on the house.
God has sealed you with His name. He cares more about you and your construction than you can even fathom.
Let’s stop demanding God to give us the blueprint and start trusting Him with the building process.
Trusting God to build our life does not guarantee a pain-free journey. In fact, we ought to expect the opposite.
No Pain, No Gain
No religion or faith system can guarantee an easy and pain free life. It’s impossible. If the person you are following promises a stress-free life of tranquility and relaxation, you better run and run fast. They are selling you a big, fat lie.
Life is painful at times. There is just no way around it. But we have a choice in how we deal with this pain. We can allow God to use it to help us and draw us closer to Him. Or we can choose to allow the pain to harden our hearts.
God wants to use the painful storms of life to make us whole. He wants us to come to Him so that at the end of the day, when it’s all said and done, we aren’t broken – He has repaired and redeemed. He has made us whole.
This is what he does, friends; he takes all of our broken pieces and creates something beautiful and redeemed. Something so glorious.
He Works All Things
Do you really believe that God works all things together for your good?
I, mean, REALLY believe this promise?
God has unlimited resources for His building plan. He never runs out of what He needs in order to accomplish His goal, which is to make us the person He created us to be.
We might not *see* His work. We might not *feel* Him every single moment. But choose to believe that He is there, with you, working everything out.
You can be confident in this Truth: He has a plan – a wonderful plan – for your life. Ask for His grace to know this truth. He chose you, so He is committed to fulfilling His plan. There is nothing that can stop Him. NOTHING. Not the economy. Not illness. Nope, not a tragedy, either. Nit even the devil himself. There is nothing that can stand in His way, my friend. He is committed to making you into the person He desires you to be. He is fully committed to making you like His Son, Jesus Christ.
Believe this truth today, my friend.
Next week, we’ll get into building the right foundation for your life. Until then, be blessed. And subscribe to my newsletter to get this set of worksheets for this blog post…PLUS access to my subscriber freebie library!
