Are You Offering Life? Or are you sitting in a puddle?

She was so distraught, in such deep sorrow that she wasn’t even able to eat.  Her husband always served her the choicest cut of meat during the feast for the yearly sacrifice.  For he loved her greatly and favored her over his second wife even though she wasn’t able to give him what he always hoped for – a son.  This was a very dark time in her life.

I’ve been there, too.  But in a different way.  I’ve been in such deep sorrow that I wasn’t able to eat from the word of God.  I know I wasn’t offering life – how could I?  I wasn’t even living myself.  And now, I wonder about you?  Are You Offering Life?  Or Are You Sitting in a Puddle?

Sometimes when we are so caught up in our own filth, we get stuck in the puddle of life. When that happens, then we can't be used by God to breathe life into others. Are You Offering Life?

Maybe you know exactly what I’m talking about.  Maybe you are there now.  In that dark place.  And you haven’t eaten in so long – your soul has not been satisfied with the choice meat of the word of God. Read More

Grace and Truth ~ When You Need Your Heart Strengthened

I am so glad I am not the only one who has asked that question!  When life suddenly goes off its hinges, it can be easy to let your mind begin to entertain that question – “Jesus, are you real?”.  Often, that question arises when we haven’t been quieting our spirit before God.  Instead, we give Him our demands and carry on trying to accomplish these goals ourselves.  I love how Betsy offers clear scripture to help us when we begin asking that question in her post When You Need Your Heart Strengthened.  Hop on over to her site if you’ve been asking that question, too.

Freedom For The Over-Responsible Woman

I was frustrated, fed up and just plain, old mad.  The family trip we had anticipated to be fun and exciting was turning out to be a nightmare.  One kid had a bladder infection, making frequent washroom stops a must. Another had athlete’s foot that was aggravated by walking around the outlet mall (and I really, REALLY wanted to take a look in that Donna Karan shop!).  The third had a medical condition that was not under control and it made going anywhere extremely challenging (BTW – sometimes Google does have better solutions than doctors!).

The combination of these 3 problems forced us to head back to the car before I was ready.  I sat in my seat grumbling and complaining, making it known just how frustrated and mad I was.

And then I heard a little voice behind me.  “Mommy, I am so sorry I made you mad.”

The conviction made my heart sink.  I was all too familiar with what was happening because the same thing happened to me for many, many years – actually, it never really ended.

Do you often feel responsible for the feelings, actions and behavior of other people? If so, you might be an over-responsible person. Here is Freedom For The Over-Responsible Woman.

The Curse Of Over-Responsibility

Being an over-responsible person enables spiritual bondage.  Taking on the responsibilities of other people is not spiritually healthy.  But it seems to occur more often than anyone would like to admit.  Because we are Christians, we are expected to be doormats for boundaryless people to wipe their muddy boots on.  Or we become so accustomed to outbursts of rage we are afraid to even believe that we are not responsible for that person’s anger. Grace and Truth ~ When Life Presses In, Press Into Grace…

One of my favorite Bible stories…the woman with the flow of blood touching the hem of Jesus’ robe…it speaks so much to the broken woman.  Telling her she hasn’t been forgotten.  That she matters.  So, it is no surprise that I chose a retelling of this beautiful story as my Grace and Truth feature this week.

If you are needing an extra dose of grace today, extra encouragement, head on over to Dawn’s post, When Life Presses In, Press Into Grace.

6 Sure Ways To Make Your Marriage Difficult

The tears rolled down my cheeks.  We were fighting…again.  I don’t even remember how it started – just how it ended.  When I walked down that aisle, I didn’t expect marriage to be this hard.  I wondered if I had made a mistake in marrying him.  Maybe he was Mr. Wrong instead of Mr. Right.  Surely someone else would have been better.  Right?  Probably not.  It wasn’t until several years later that I realized why this was improbable.  I had to learn a lot…thankfully, when you don’t have someone to teach you these things, God uses His Holy Spirit to teach us the truth.  What did I learn?  I am sure you are anxious to find out.  Well, here are 6 Sure Ways To Make Your Marriage Difficult.

6 Sure Ways To Make Your Marriage Difficult

I wish I had known these things when Marcus and I were first married.  Yes, we did go to marriage counseling, but I don’t remember the pastor talking about these kinds of things.  The things I had to learn ‘on my own’ years later.  Things I had to learn from experience (AKA – the hard way).  When I learned these things and applied them to my life and my marriage, Marcus and I grew stronger.  And when he started doing the same thing – WOW!  That’s when we became unstoppable!  OK, maybe not to that extreme.  But we do have a solid marriage because we both work hard to avoid the following 6 things. Grace and Truth ~ 4 Ways To Find Freedom In The Fact God Is In Control

Does the idea of God being in control of everything freak you out?  Maybe you are totally fine with the idea until something tragic and horrible happens.  Then you start to doubt.   You doubt His goodness.  His love.  And those doubts and fears can put us in spiritual bondage.  They make us lose hope.  Since I am all for FREEDOM in all areas of life, it should be no surprise that my feature for this week is about freedom!

Charlie wrote a fantastic post that gives 4 Ways To Find Freedom In The Fact God Is In Control.  If you need some encouragement in this area, head on over and read her post.  You will find the hope of the Lord and His sovereignty in her writing.

Grace and Truth ~ Weird But Not a Weirdo {A Pondering Post}

Three words forced me to stop reading as my eyes started to well up with tears.  “I stopped dancing…”  Yeah, I know about that.  Maybe not literally, but there was a long period of time when I stopped ‘dancing’.  I was living a life in spiritual bondage.  Fear.  Lies. SHAME.  Pain.  Not good enough.  Too emotional.  Too sensitive.  And so much more.  I love Joy’s post, Weird But Not a Weirdo {A Pondering Post}.  I love her story.  Her struggle.  Mostly because I can relate.  If you are feeling ‘different’, weird or like you have stopped dancing, please, head on over to Joy’s site and read her post for some wonderful encouragement.

5 Telling Signs Your Child Is Ready For Social Media

I was happily scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed when a question in a homeschool group caught my eye.  I read the question with interest and a thoughtful response was at the ready…until I started to read the responses to this question.  That’s when my heart sunk.  I left the dialogue feeling discouraged and disheartened.  I had noticed some ‘red flags’ when the original asker of the question replied to some of the quick and thoughtless responses.  How could no one else see these flags that were waving right in front of my face?  Did no one see the deeper issue?  Or is it all about rules and regulations?  My oldest has social media accounts and our decision for allowing her on social media was completely different from what was expressed in this conversation.  This is how we decided: 4 Telling Signs Your Child Is Ready For Social Media.

5 Telling Signs Your Child Is Ready For Social Media

The question posed was at what age is it ok for a child to have social media accounts.  This answer can seem easy when we know that with most social media accounts, a child has to be at least 13 to have one.  So, anyone under 13 should not have an account.  That settles part of the question.  But, I don’t really think that age has as much to do with the decision beyond that. 3 Precious Promises To Remember On Valentine’s Day

Love is in the air!  Can you feel it?  Maybe you are in the greatest relationship of your life and Valentine’s Day is one of your favorite days to celebrate.  Or maybe you are in a difficult marriage and you are feeling unloved.  You are dreading Valentine’s Day.  Maybe you don’t have a significant other and Valentine’s Day is just another blaring reminder that you are alone.  Perhaps divorce has shred your heart to pieces and you would rather hide under the blankets on your bed than look at one more advertisement for the day of love.  Whatever your relationship status, I want to remind you of some truths about God’s love that you can hold fast to for Valentine’s Day.  3 Precious Promises To Remember On Valentine’s Day.

3 Promises For Valentine's Day

He Is Yours, You Are His

I love how God claims us as His in the book of Jeremiah.  We belong to Him, He holds us close to His heart.  He longs to know us, He desires a relationship with us so deeply that He gives us the heart to know Him.

He does not want to miss out on spending time with us.

I have turned this verse into a prayer for myself: “Father God, give me the heart to know You, that You are Lord.  I am Yours and You are mine.  I will return to You with my whole heart.” Read More
