The Astounding Truth About Happy Wife, Happy Life

The question was asked and my ears were attentive.  I wanted to know the answer to this question, too!  I love hearing the wisdom that comes with years of marriage.  Everyone had a turn.  Responses ranged from having a good sense of humor and forgiving quickly to the typical ‘don’t go to bed angry’ (not always the best advice in every circumstance – but I’ll get to that in a later post) and don’t try and change him.  And then we got to the good old cliché I had been expecting…Happy Wife, Happy Life!  That can’t possibly be the whole truth, can it?  Or as easy as that?  There has to be more.  The life of my husband and my family cannot be so reliant on my ‘happiness’.  That just doesn’t sound right to me.  So, I contemplated this notion for a while and here is The Astounding Truth About Happy Wife, Happy Life.

We’ve all heard the cliché. And some of us have even fallen for it. Do we really want our marriages to revolve around our fickle emotions and our unstable seasons of life? I hope there is more to it than that! The Astounding Truth About Happy Wife, Happy Life.

I suppose the intention behind saying this cliché is what would determine if it is good advice or just a bad opinion.  If a husband is fighting for his wife, therefore bringing joy to her, then, yes, it is good counsel.  However, if it results in a marriage that revolves around the wife’s happiness and comfort, then we have some serious problems.  Below are some truths to bear in mind as we come across cliché pieces of advice such as Happy Wife, Happy Life. Grace & Truth ~ What to Do When Your Past Revisits You

We all have a past.  Things we wish we hadn’t done.  Pain we wish hadn’t been inflicted upon us.  Relationships we’d hoped would’ve turned out differently.  Somehow, we ‘move on’ – because life goes on.  And then…when we least expect it – a piece of our past returns.  Our hearts get broken – again.  We feel the grief of ‘what should’ve been’ but never was.

I know all of this all too well.  And it hurts.  That’s why I chose Tiffany’s post, What to Do When Your Past Revisits You, as my feature for Grace and Truth this week.  Hop on over to her site to read her encouraging post!

Is Bible Journaling Wrong? Or Even Evil?

You know how you read a post and the author sounds angry…or judgemental (maybe both) – and you leave the site feeling condemned?  Oh, my, if people ever felt like that after reading any of my posts, I’d be quite concerned about what I was writing!  Convicted – yes (this comes from the Holy Spirit).  Condemned – never – because it would come from me.  But finding these kinds of posts is pretty easy – even when you search for a topic as harmless as Bible journaling.  Wow!  There are some strong opinions out there!  And, friends, that is exactly what they are – opinions.  So, I thought I’d address the question Is Bible Journaling Wrong? Or Even Evil? in my last post in the series.

Your desire is to live in obedience to God because of your love and devotion to Him. You are also a creative person and you’ve heard about Bible journaling. You love the idea and you see it as a way to draw you and the Lord even closer. But you’ve also heard bad things about it – bad enough to make you worry that you might be doing the devil’s work. You wonder Is Bible Journaling Wrong? Or Even Evil? I address these questions in this post.

There are a few arguments out there against Bible journaling – let’s go one-by-one. Read More

“What about ‘me time’?”

Isn’t that the lament of almost every mother?  We want demand ‘our time’.  It seems to be the mantra these days – the forever sought after ‘mommy time’.  However, in our search this elusive point in time, we often miss out on the TRUE mommy quite time.  We hunt for the experiences that only temporarily fill us while negating the moments that satisfy our souls.

And, really, isn’t that what we desperately need?  Soul satisfaction?

That’s why I appreciated Rosanna’ post from Extraordinary Everyday Mom.  Her post, 3 Ways I Practice Self-Care Everyday, are not only practical, but can probably be fulfilled almost every day.

Can I Divorce-Proof My Marriage?

This year has been so hard for many marriages.  Whether it be a ‘celebrity’ Christian or a friend.  This year has been HARD.  At the end of last year, Courtney Joseph announced the end of her marriage, causing her to take a break from writing this past spring.  My heart broke for her precious heart.  And then, more recently, Lysa TerKeurst from Proverbs 31 ministries, announced her divorce due to her husband’s infidelity, substance abuse, and his refusal to repent anhttp://lysaterkeurst.com/2017/06/rejection-heartache-and-a-faithful-god/d turn away from his sin.  Both of these beautiful women wrote on Godly marriage.  How can this happen to them??  We want to know because it scares us.  If it can happen to them, it can happen to us.  We wonder, “Can I Divorce-Proof My Marriage?”

With the number of Christian celebrity marriages falling apart, doubt and discouragement can infiltrate our hearts. We grow concerned about our own marriages. Is there anything that can be done to ensure our marriages are immune to such disaster? We wonder “Can I Divorce-Proof My Marriage?”

I don’t think there is a magical formula for divorce-proofing.  I’m sure if there was, these ladies would have used it!  We can do everything in our power to prevent affairs and divorce, but in the end, if there is unrepentance, the marriage will disintegrate. Read More

Grace & Truth ~ 6 Of The Best Reasons Why We Need Our Dads

Father’s Day has come and gone.  How did you spend yours?  We had a quiet afternoon after church.  It was good.  I am thankful that we were able to celebrate my husband on Sunday.  We talked about what it meant to be a good father – and how he has pointed our kids to Jesus Christ.

It really was a good day.

However, I know it wasn’t an easy day for many.  Maybe your father was absent growing up.  Or maybe he was around, but not really present or available.  Maybe your father was abusive.  Maybe you never knew him.  I get this.  Really, I do.  My father was an alcoholic and was killed in an accident when I was 3.  He was the driver.  He killed his friend, too.

I know healing and restoration is possible, friend.  I know because I have experienced it.  And that is why I chose Julie’s post, 6 Of The Best Reasons Why We Need Our Dads, as my feature this week.  She addresses just how important dads are – and because they are so important, it breaks our hearts when our dad isn’t the dad God intended him to be.  I appreciate how she briefly discusses how to seek help and healing for those wounds.  The stats she shares are not surprising, but still hard to read.  It is a great post – and I hope that it blesse you as you read…and brings healing to your heart.

Bible Journaling Tips for the Not-So-Artistic Artists

I scrolled through my Pinterest search results for Bible journaling, each image bringing discouragement and intimidation.  There is NO WAY I can draw like that!!!  There is so much detail in those hands.  The colors are blended perfectly.  The lines are straight.  I was tempted to shut my journaling Bible and give up.  But I didn’t.  And I’m glad I didn’t!  I figured out how to journal my way – a way that honors my heart for God.  And I think that’s the key here, right?  Not perfection (we are all a work in progress, after all, right?).  But what brings me closer to God.  I thought I’d share a few of my Bible Journaling Tips for the Not-So-Artistic Artists.

If you have felt intimidated by all the beautiful art work that comes with Pinterest searches of Bible journaling, you aren’t alone. Here are my tips for getting started with Bible journaling without worrying about what everyone else is doing. Bible Journaling Tips for the Not-So-Artistic Artists.

While in university for my teaching degree, I had to take a special art class for teachers – how to teach art.  Part of the requirement was to keep a sketchbook AND to create specific pieces of art using various tools.  Many of us found this task overwhelming.  We weren’t talented artists like some of our peers were.  However, before we could voice our complaints concerns, our professor told us something I’ll never forget.  She said, “You are all artists.  You can all draw.  I’ll teach you how.”  And she did.  She did teach a little bit of technique, but mostly, she encouraged us to find our own art ‘voice’.  She saw us all as artists.  And, slowly, throughout the year, we started to see ourselves as artists, too. Grace & Truth ~ 10 Thoughtful Questions For Moms Who Want To Raise Godly Children

I used to be an angry mom.  To those who know me right now, that would come as a complete shock.  It would be difficult for them to believe.  Not because I put on this façade of my mothering or because my kids live in a state of fear of embarrassing me…but because the fruit of Godly parenting is evident in my family.  Trust me, this did not happen because I’m ‘all that’.  Actually, it is a by-product of some necessary steps of healing I’ve had to take in my own life.  It’s actually quite fascinating how it has unfolded.  And the realization of the serious effects that my own spiritual, emotional, and mental health have on my children humbles my heart.  Because it could have turned out much differently.  And not in a good way.  Especially when you compare your own past of being raised in an unstable home and you see a huge difference.  Again, I am humbled.  So humbled that my God chose to heal me and make me the woman…and mom…I am today.  Humbled that my husband showed incredible patience with me – seriously, he could have left, God knows he had more than enough reason to between me and my family.

I know the importance of mom’s overall health – and how it affects parenting – and the overall health of her children her entire family.  That’s why I chose Ifeoma’s post, as my feature this week.  She puts forth some very thought-provoking questions for us moms.  I hope you take the time to pop over to her site and read through the questions, asking yourself as you read.  Take our time.  Don’t rush the process.  Your parenting will greatly benefit from it as you seek healing from the Healer of your heart.
